Lord, Help Me Not To … “

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever had to deal with deceptive and double-tongued people?  I mean a person who praises the Lord on Sunday and by Monday morning you are wondering if this is the same person from yesterday.  I mean a person who claims to love the Lord but their actions and lifestyle leaves one to wonder.  I mean a person who speaks in tongues on Sunday, but will not speak to you in English.  Have you ever had to work alongside a person or group of people who would rather gossip about ’so-and-so’ than get work done?  These are the people who run to your office or cubicle wanting to tell you what they heard about ‘whatchamacallit’ (this is an Ebonics word ).  They could care less about who they hurt or offend.

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  While we may be successful in deceiving our peers, no one is getting over on the Lord.  He knows your heart (Hebrews 4:12).  How do you handle the hypocrites around you?  How do you handle a person who appears to be living a double life (holy on Sunday and devilish the other days) … especially if the person is in your home?  How do you keep from strangling this person?  When I get to the point of total frustration with a person, I have this saying I recite.  I simply say, “Lord, Help Me Not To … “  Since I do not know what you are dealing with, you have to complete the sentence.  The Bible declares in 2 Peter 1:5-7- And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;  And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

My brother, my sister, it is important for you to understand God sees everything and knows everything.  He knows who is getting on your last nerve.  He knows who keeps mess going.  He knows the drama you face on the job, at the church, and even in your home.  He knows the attacks the devil sends against you and He knows the people the devil attempt to use against you.  I know reacting according to your flesh can be easy, but what will it resolve?  After you have reacted, now your relationship with the Lord is being threaten.  You are now being labeled as a fake.  Beloved, when you get to the point that you want to react, just simply say, “Lord, Help Me Not To … “  The Bible declares in James 1:19-20 - Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

That’s Where God Wants To Start!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever found yourself feeling overwhelmed by life and the demands that come with it?  Everyday it seems as if you are faced with more.  Just when you finally get one side nailed down, now you have to use more energy to get the other side down.  Just when you finally pay one bill, now there’s another bill due.  Just when you finish one major assignment, here comes another one.  Have you ever found yourself on the verge of breaking down?  With so many people and things demanding your time and attention, you feel stretched thin.  From the time your eyes open in the morning, until the time they close at night, someone is constantly asking for you to help them with something.  You quickly realize there’s no rest for the weary.  Have you been there?  Are you there now?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  What do you do when your body is weary and your spirit is drained?  What do you do when there are more questions than answers?  What do you do when there are more demands than realistic solutions?  What do you do when you feel trapped?  How do you handle the stress and strain of everyday business?  Hmmmmmm  Child of God, I know you have been acting as if everything is going well, but today the Lord wants to minister to your inner pain.  The pain you try so hard to hide from everyone.  I know you are blessed of the Lord and highly favored, but what about the ache in your heart?  My friend, That’s Where God Wants To Start!  The Bible declares in Psalms 147:3 - He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

My brother, my sister, while it may appear easy to hide our pain and hurt from each other, the Lord sees it and knows all about it.  Over time, we have hidden the pain from everyone until we start trying to hide it from ourselves.  This is the same pain that troubles your sleep.  This is the same pain that affects your health.  This is the same pain you walk the floors at night about.  This is the same pain that causes you to lash out on everything and everybody.  This is the same pain that causes you to deal with depression.  This is the same pain that causes you to spend all of your money trying to alleviate.  Hmmmmmmm  Let’s be real.  The pain you are dealing with really hurts.  Beloved, That’s Where God Wants To Start!  Until you admit it’s there, God cannot do what He does best.  The Bible declares in Psalms 34:18 - The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Just When They Said It Was Over …

Tuesday, April 28th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever had people look at you and with no hesitation count you out?  Without ever getting a chance to personally know you, they have concluded that you will never amount to anything.  Without any reservations, they inform you that your dreams will never come to pass.  Have you ever had family members or friends speak death into a goal you were attempting to speak life into?  Because they could not see it coming to pass, they instantly concluded the goal was impossible and you would never succeed.  Have you ever told someone, you love, something inwardly personal you wanted to do in life and before you could lay your head down at night this person had composed a list of reasons why you could not do it?  Just think about!  I am talking about people who have no faith to believe.

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  The opinions of our family members and close friends play a pivotal role in our lives.  The last thing you would expect is momma not believing God could use you to do something awesome.  Never would you expect your spouse would be the one to speak negative about your passions, especially when you were the one playing “encourager” when  (s)he was pursuing something that man said could not be done.  May I ask you a question?  Will you stop believing just because everyone else has?  My friend, Just When They Said It Was Over … God Stepped In!  The Bible declares in Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.  Just because man says ‘no,’ does not mean God will say ‘no!’

My brother, my sister, what are you believing God for?  What are you praying about doing over the next days, weeks, months or years?  Do you really think God needs your family’s approval before He uses you or blesses you?  I beg the differ.  There are times when the Lord will wait until everyone you trust and depend on have failed you before He intervenes.  Sometimes He will wait until this life has disappointed you before He shows up and shows out.  Sometimes He will permit things to get to a breaking point before He sends forth your breakthrough.  Beloved, Just When They Said It Was Over … God Proves Them [All] Wrong!  The Bible declares in Philippians 1:6 - Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:  Thought to Remember: God does not have to check in with anyone before He does what He does!

Things Are Better Than They Look!

Monday, April 27th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever asked, “Lord, why me?”  Have you ever felt as though God was punishing you?  Have you ever been mad and angry with the Lord?  So often in our lives, we find ourselves full of bitterness.  We smile on the outside, but we are full of anger within.  You are mad at God.  You are questioning His love toward you.  You do not understand what went wrong.  You do not understand why you and why now!  Have you been there?  Are you there now?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  My friend, Things Are Better Than They Look!  Right now the end does not seem promising.  You fail to see the sun shining over the horizon.  Doubt and fear have attempted to control your body.  The Bible declares in Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.  Your current situation is better than it looks.  God is still in control.  It is important for you to [always] understand one significant point … God’s will for your life is different than your will for your life.  God is not punishing you.  He is not sitting in Heaven making fun of you.  He’s trying to mold and make you into what He created you to be.  The Bible declares in Ephesians 2:10 - For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

My brother, my sister, Things Are Better Than They Look!  The Bible declares in Hebrews 13:5 - Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.  God has not forgotten about you.  Your current storm is not hidden from Him.  While you are in the midst of the storm, the Lord is upholding you.  Without a test, you can never have a testimony.  As you look at your bills, your job, your marriage, your ministry, or your finances, do not lose faith in the Lord.  My friend, Things Are Better Than They Look!  The same God from before, is the same God now!  Thought to Remember: If God is in control, things will always get better.

Place It In The Lord’s Hands!

Friday, April 24th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever had to recover from a broken heart?  After loving someone with your whole heart, (s)he broke it into pieces.  After loving something so dearly, you lost it.  After giving your all to this person or this thing, now you find yourself trying to pick up and move on.  Currently, moving on appears so hard to do.  You know you need to but doing it is harder than people think.  Have you ever had someone betray your love and friendship?  Out of all the people to betray you, never did you imagine it would be this person.  Never would it be the person you told your deepest secrets too.  Never would it be the person who consoled you during the worse moments in your life.  Never would it be the person who introduced you to your spouse or significant other.  Have you ever been there?  Are you there now?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  Until you have had your heart broken, you will never understand how God is able to mend it.  Until this world disappoints you, you will never understand God’s faithfulness.  Just when you thought you could not go on any longer, the Lord intervened.  Just when you thought you would never smile again, the Lord intervened.  Just when you thought your family member’s death would tear you down, the Lord intervened.  Do you not understand God is able to do what man cannot?  Just because you see the situation as never-changing, does not mean it is.  We see what things look like now, the Lord sees how it will be when He’s done with it.  My friend, Place It In The Lord’s Hands!  The Bible declares in 1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

My brother, my sister, what are you going through at this point in your life?  What dilemma do you find yourself dealing with?  How bad has the situation become?  Have you lost the faith to believe our God can make it work together for your good (Romans 8:28)?  I know how it feels to lose hope in any changes taking place.  I know how it feels to become so familiar with failure and hell, until success and abundance appear impossible.  I know how it feels to throw your hands after you have had enough.  BUT (this means it is not over), I also know how it feels to have the Lord step in right before you break down.  Beloved, Place It In The Lord’s Hands!  The Bible declares in Isaiah 55:8 - For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.  No matter what you think or how you feel, our God can turn this thing around.

What do you do …

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever walked the floors through the night?  There was so much on your mind that sleeping was secondary.  Have you ever been beaten, battered and bruised by life’s circumstances?  Everywhere you went, someone was determined to destroy you.  Have you ever suffered through troubles, heartaches and pains?  From the outside all seems well, but within you are breaking down.  There comes a time in our lives when our heart can no longer take it anymore.  You have tried everything and everyone, but it all ended short of the goal.  Have you been there?  Are you there now?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  My friend, today you may find yourself in an unfamiliar position.  Normally you are the one encouraging everyone.  You are the one sending loving e-mails and heartfelt letters. Usually, you spend your evenings calling the sick and wounded.  What do you do when the encourager now needs encouragement?  What do you do when the outcome seems uncertain?  What do you do when you feel victimized by life?  What do you do when you find it difficult to minister to yourself?  What do you do when the doctor returns with a report that puts your life on pause?  What do you do when you have no money, but you work a job?  What do you do when death has visited your family?  The Bible declares in 1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.   Dear friend, each day you live presents a different question to answer.  But with every question, the answer remains the same … God!

My brother, my sister, no matter what the situation looks like, God is still God.  No matter how awful you feel, God is still on His throne.  Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.  Life presents no test that God cannot pass.  The Bible declares in Isaiah 46:9 - Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me.  What do you do when life seems to overpower you?  It is at that point in your life that you must trust and believe God is.  What is He?  He is whatever you want or need Him to be for you.  The Bible declares in Psalms 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.  No matter how impossible it appears, God can still do it (Luke 1:37).  Thought to Remember: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever (Hebrews 13:8).

He’s Praying For You!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Are you glad its almost Friday?  Has it been a long week thus far?  Are you feeling overwhelmed?  Frustrated?  Irritated?  When you become frustrated and irritated, what do you do?  Do you walk away and pray?  Do you sing your favorite song?  Do you release your anger on everyone?  So often in our lives, we find ourselves lashing out against everyone.  When you get upset you attack the entire world.  Everyone is wrong but you.  Does this sound like someone you know?  Does this sound like you?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  Guess what?  When you are feeling overwhelmed, overworked, under-payed, irritated and frustrated, He’s Praying For You!  He intercedes on your behalf.  The Bible declares in Hebrews 7:25 - Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.   At your worse points in life, the Lord is still able to handle you.  When no one else wants to be bothered with you, the Lord always has a way to get your attention.  He knows you.  Not only does He know you, but He has given the Holy Spirit charge over you.  While in charge, He’s Praying For You!  The Bible declares in Romans 8:27 - And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

My brother, my sister, is the job that bad?  Are you that mean?  Is it too hard for the Lord?  Have you ever been in a position where you did not know what to pray for?  Even at that point, the Bible declares in Romans 8:26 - Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  Dear friend, never allow your anger to lead to sinning.  The Bible declares in Ephesians 4:26 - Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:   When everything seems to be against you, always know … He’s Praying For You!  Thought to Remember: At your lowest point, God can still pick you up!

Do Not Allow Anything or Anyone Steal Your Joy!

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  The Holy Spirit has instructed me to tell you one thing today and then end the devotional.  In obedience to Him, I will do just that and nothing more.

Beloved, …

Do Not Allow Anything or Anyone Steal Your Joy!

The devil is determined to do just that.  Therefore, he will send whatever it takes to rob you of all God has given to you.  Guard yourself from the traps and assaults of the devil.  The Bible declares in Philippians 4:4 - Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

If It Had Not Been For The Lord

Monday, April 20th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  I often wonder what life would be like if everyone displayed love one to the other.  I often wonder what life would be like if we treated each other the way we wanted to be treated.  I often wonder what life would be like if we allowed ourselves to be used for the glory of God … daily.  I often wonder how America would be if God’s people would humble themselves and repent for any wickedness we may have been involved in.  Have you ever taken the time to evaluate your life?  I mean seriously take time to analyze the errors of your ways.  At my current age, I fully understand where I am in life is because of the grace, mercy and love of God.  My past consists of many sins.  It consists of things that only God Himself could forgive and wash away.  What about you?  Do you remember and appreciate the miraculous work God has performed in your life?

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  My friend, If It Had Not Been For The Lord … who was on your side, the enemy would have killed you years ago.  There are many things we have done, knowingly and unknowingly, but the grace of God was displayed to us.  There are traps we set for others and traps others set for us, but God would not allow any of it to come to pass.  Do you realize when you were operating outside of the Lord’s will, He was still watching over you?  Yes the sin(s) we were engaged in displeased Him, but His unconditional love for us would not allow Him to destroy us.  Yes the filth in our mouth and hearts were blocking Him from truly using us, but His unconditional love for us would not allow Him to give up on us.  The Bible declares in Isaiah 59:19 - … When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

My brother, my sister, please do not allow your flesh to be puffed up in pride.  All of your abilities are possible because God saw fit to let it be.  You are replaceable.  Just because you think it is not possible, does not mean God cannot raise up someone else to take your place.  God is more concerned about His people glorifying Him, not about how many cars, homes, clothes or accounts they have.  He is more concerned about us living righteous before Him, not how many degrees, titles, accolades, applauds, members or followers we have.  Do you realize all of the stuff we acquire is temporary?  When we leave this earth, someone else will claim ownership of the things you leave behind.  Beloved, If It Had Not Been For The Lord … the devil would have taken you out during the last storm.  The Bible declares in Psalms 91:1-2 - He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Holiness Is A Lifestyle!

Friday, April 17th, 2015

It’s a wonderful day to be a child of God.  Have you ever met someone who acted as if they never did anything wrong, thought anything wrong, went anywhere wrong or said anything wrong?  This person was high and mighty in their own eyes.  No matter what people said or did, this person always appeared more superior than anyone else.  They acted as if they were the perfect example of Christianity.  They acted as if they committed no sins.  They acted as if Jesus died for only them.  Have you ever found yourself in conversation with a self-righteous person?  A person who loved to point out the sins of everyone else.  A person who loved to tell others about your recent mistake(s).  A person who used intercessory prayer as a time to spread your business all over the church.  A person who found great pleasure in having their name high and lifted up.

Today, I have been commissioned to come and minister to you.  Isn’t it amazing to see people act as if the blood of Jesus only remitted their sins?  They act as if He only rose again to save them.  Man Please!  I find discomfort being in the presence of “holier than thou” individuals.  My friend, Holiness Is A Lifestyle!  It is not based on certain attire you wear on First Sunday.  It is not based on your church’s denomination.  It is not based on who your grandmother or mother was.  It is not based on how you say, “Amen” or “Hallelujah.”  God is not impressed with these things.  He is not moved by the size of our church’s memberships.  God is concerned about us.  He is concerned about how we are living, especially when the limelight is not shining in our face.  The Bible declares in 1 Peter 1:16 - Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

My brother, my sister, I mean no disrespect to your church or your church’s leadership, but it is time for us to teach and preach truth.  Holiness is not acquired because you spend every available moment at the church.  It is not received because you serve on the praise team.  If you were not a minister of the Gospel, or a deacon, or an evangelist, or an usher, or a mother, God would still desire holiness from you.  Webster defines holiness as having a divine quality; sanctified.  Beloved, Holiness Is A Lifestyle!  Even if you do not have the “title,” you are still required to live a life of holiness.  Even if no one knows your name, you are still required to live a life of holiness.  Whether you are married or single, you are still required to live a life of holiness.  Whether you are male or female, you are still required to live a life of holiness.  The Bible declares in 1 Peter 1:15 - But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
